Hi! My name is Karla and I am excited to start this learning journey with you! With more than 10 years of experience under my belt, I've had the joy of teaching amazing learners in Pre-K and Elementary grades across sunny California and windy Illinois. To make our online sessions fun and engaging, I use cool resources like Kahoot, Boom Cards, Quizlet, Scholastic News, and more. Also, I love to sprinkle-in brain breaks and reward hard work with fun games. Keeping our time together active and lively is one of my priorities. I truly believe that when kids are having fun, they learn better. Besides that, I like to connect my lessons with hobbies and preferred activities. Whether it's playing sports, baking, or video gaming, we will find a way to tie it all together! Outside of teaching, I enjoy spending time with my family, getting crafty, and baking delicious treats. I'm also a big fan of sports and thrilling stories in books and movies. Together we will explore topics that ignite curiosity and creativity. I can't wait to meet you and begin our fun learning adventure! See you soon!

I have 25 years of teaching experience, working with learners in grades K-21 in a variety of subjects including Special Education, Reading, English, Science, and Life Skills. I have taught in both Illinois and Wisconsin, and I hold a Masters of Science in Education (MSED) degree. Growing up, I always had a passion for learning and I love being able to share that excitement with my students. In my online sessions, I use interactive quizzes, fun polls, and engaging games to make learning an adventure. I know that every learner is different, so I encourage my students to work at their own pace and choose projects that spark their curiosity. I also believe in the power of personalized feedback and am always available to offer timely and constructive support. My goal is to ensure that online learning is not only fun, but also effective for my students. I design my courses with clear learning goals and a logical flow, and use a variety of resources including videos, quizzes, and simulations to make learning an active experience. I also show my students the real-world applications of what we are learning and provide personalized feedback to help them grow. With my guidance, I also teach valuable self-regulation skills so that my students can become confident and independent learners. Outside of teaching, I enjoy spending time on the water, practicing yoga, and performing in traveling waterski shows. My hobbies and personal experiences have also influenced my teaching style and methodology, allowing me to bring a unique and diverse perspective to my sessions. I look forward to working with you and your family to help your child thrive and succeed in their learning journey!

With 15 years of teaching experience, I have had the privilege of teaching English Language Arts to learners in grades 1-8. My teaching journey has taken me to various states and regions, including DC and MD, where I have had the opportunity to work with diverse groups of learners. I hold a Masters of Education in Elementary Education and have specialized in Accelerating Early Literacy Development from Duke University. My passion for teaching goes beyond the classroom - I am constantly finding ways to make online learning fun and engaging for my learners. I use interactive games and resources, as well as tools like annotation and screen sharing, to create an interactive virtual classroom that allows for meaningful learning experiences. My goal is to ensure that online learning is effective for my learners, and I do this through goal setting, planning, and promoting interaction through annotation and polls. Aside from teaching, I have a variety of interests and hobbies that keep me energized and inspired. I love attending live music events, coaching, and staying active through fitness. In fact, my passion for fitness and coaching has greatly influenced my teaching style and methodology. I strongly believe that consistency is key in both teaching and fitness, and I strive to bring that mindset into my virtual classroom. I am looking forward to getting to know your family and working together to make learning a fun and fulfilling experience for your kids!
