Spelling Tutoring for 1st Grade

My name is Valencia Lyles. I have been teaching for 13 years and I love what I do. I am currently teaching first grade as well as tutoring at my school for 3rd and 4th graders. I have experience teaching grades Kindergarten - Fourth Grade. Reading is my strongest subject to teach and my love, but I am also able to teach math just as well. Reading became a love for me while I was teaching third and fourth grade. In third grade I was able to use the strengths of developing readers and help them read and actually pass their reading end of grade test which is why I moved to fourth grade the next year. That was great for me and that's when all I had to focus on was reading because fourth grade was departmentalized. Finding a child's strengths and weaknesses is needed because we need to use the strength to help strengthen the weaknesses in both reading and math. I believe I have what it takes to help a child discover his strengths and weaknesses and use the strength to develop the weaknesses.

With 10 years of teaching experience under my belt, I have had the joy of working with second and third graders in the beautiful states of New Mexico and Arizona. My heart belongs to education, and I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education for grades K-8. I can’t wait to share my love for learning with your kids and watch their confidence grow! In my virtual classroom, I like to keep things lively and fun. I bring the Peanuts Gang into our interactions, which not only makes learning entertaining but also relatable. Communication is key, and I ensure we stay connected through documentation and check-ins, so every kid feels supported on their learning path. Together, we'll make learning online a breeze! With 11 years of teaching experience under my belt, I've had the joy of working with exceptional learners in 1st and 4th grades, focusing on subjects like Math Intervention and Academically Gifted Education. In addition, I have also had the wonderful role of coaching teachers and currently fulfilling my principal internship year. Although I've taught in North Carolina, I genuinely believe learning can flourish anywhere, especially when we bring curious minds together! My focus is on making subjects like Reading, Phonics, Math, Social Skills, and Writing come alive for my learners. I believe that every child has a unique spark, and I’m here to help them shine their brightest! When it comes to learning online, I love to keep things dynamic and fun! I design interactive lessons that move at a quick pace, tailoring activities to students’ interests. With 14 years of experience teaching Pre-k and 1st grade, I have a passion for creating engaging and accessible lessons for learners. My teaching experience has mainly been in North Carolina, where I received my Bachelor's of Science in Child Development at Meredith College. I am a licensed Birth-Kindergarten and K-6 educator. In addition to teaching, I have a love for decorating and organizing. My personal interests in decorating houses for the holidays, shopping for antiques, and keeping spaces clean and clutter-free, definitely influence my teaching style.

As a certified Literacy Teacher, I am equipped to help learners develop strong foundational reading skills.

I have 21 years of teaching experience and have taught a variety of grades and subjects including 1st grade, 3rd grade, and special education. I have taught in Tennessee and Georgia, and am currently located in the southern region. I hold a Bachelor's degree in elementary education and a Masters degree in teacher leadership. In addition, I am certified in special education for pre-k through 12th grade. When it comes to online learning, I believe in keeping it fun and engaging. I use hands-on activities, bright colors, and fast-paced games to keep my learners interested and involved. Outside of teaching, I have a passion for reading, crafting, and going for walks. I have been teaching for 8 years, and in that time I have had the pleasure of working with learners in Pre-school, Kindergarten, and 1st grade. I have been teaching for 7 years, primarily in Kindergarten and 2nd grade in Illinois. My passion for working with young learners started when I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education. Through my years of experience, I have also gained certifications in English as a Second Language and Special Education. As a tutor at Dojo Tutor, my main focus is providing 1:1 sessions for kids in Kindergarten through 2nd grade. My goal is to make learning accessible, engaging, and personalized for each learner. When it comes to online learning, I always make sure to get to know my students and incorporate plenty of brain breaks to keep things fun. I also use frequent check-ins and informal assessments to ensure that the lessons are effective and tailored to the learner's needs.
