Hi! I'm Ms. Byrd, and I bring 10 years of classroom experience to my tutoring. I have a diverse background, having taught middle school English, high school U.S. History, and AP Seminar. Beyond my teaching expertise, I also hold a law degree, which allows me to offer comprehensive support in various subjects. While reading and English are my specialties, my experience covers a wide range, including Social Studies, writing, math, science, and Spanish. With more than 10 years of experience under my belt, I've had the joy of teaching amazing learners in Pre-K and Elementary grades across sunny California and windy Illinois. To make our online sessions fun and engaging, I use cool resources like Kahoot, Boom Cards, Quizlet, Scholastic News, and more. Also, I love to sprinkle-in brain breaks and reward hard work with fun games. Keeping our time together active and lively is one of my priorities. Hi! My name is Kelly and I am excited to start this learning journey with you! I am in my fourth year of teaching, primarily in first grade. In this role, I have taught various subjects including reading, math, science, social studies, and health. I've had the joy of working with learners of all backgrounds and abilities, and have loved every moment of it. Currently, I am based in Maryland, but I am open to working with families from all over. I hold a B.A. in psychology and a PhD in child development, which have equipped me with a deep understanding of how children learn and grow. I am also certified to teach elementary education for grades 1-6. In addition to English, I am fluent in French and Spanish, and have loved incorporating these languages into my teaching whenever possible. My goal is to create a fun, inclusive, and enriching learning environment for all of my learners. When it comes to online learning, I strive to make every session enjoyable and effective. I am always looking for new and creative ways to engage my students, whether it's through gamified tools like Quizizz and Blooket, or through interactive simulations for science lessons. I also regularly use songs and videos to make my lessons more engaging and multimodal. My improv comedy background has also been helpful in teaching, as it has taught me the importance of being adaptable and flexible in any learning situation. Outside of teaching, I enjoy playing board games, reading fantasy novels, and performing improv with an amateur team.
