Coding Tutoring for 6th Grade

With 18 years of teaching experience, I am thrilled to bring my expertise to 1:1 sessions with learners at Dojo Tutor. Throughout my career, I have taught a variety of grades and subjects, including 2nd grade, 5th grade Math, Early Childhood, and Technology. I have had the pleasure of teaching in the great state of New Jersey, where I have helped countless kids grow and succeed. I hold a Computer Science Degree from William Paterson College, as well as a K-5 Teaching Certification and 11 IT Certification. Outside of teaching, you can find me playing tennis or hanging out with my pet turtle. I believe that getting to know my learners and incorporating their interests into our lessons makes for a fun and engaging learning experience. I have been teaching for 8 years, and have experience working with learners in Elementary through 12th grade in a variety of subjects including Math, Reading, Writing, Science, Social Studies, and Career Resource Education. I am certified to teach K-6 in all subjects, 6-12 in Business Education and Agriculture Education, and have a reading endorsement. Besides my passion for teaching, I also have a few personal interests and hobbies that I enjoy outside of the classroom. I am a certified scuba diver and love exploring the beautiful underwater world. I also enjoy embroidery and spending time watching college football.

I have been teaching for a couple of years now, specializing in Math and English for kids in Kindergarten through 4th grade. I’ve had the pleasure of working with learners in Pennsylvania, and I’m currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science. I believe that education should feel like an adventure, and I’m here to make that happen! To keep our online learning fun and engaging, I love using cool visuals like counting blocks and fun coloring activities. Imagine solving math problems or crafting stories that make you feel like you’re teaming up on a quest! I’m all about finding creative ways to help kids understand their lessons and grow their confidence. I also enjoy learning about how each child learns best so I can tailor activities just for them. Outside of tutoring, I’m a big fan of art and have even helped out at the Dungeons and Dragons club after school. I draw and paint with color pencils and acrylics, which inspires me to think creatively when working with my learners. My experiences in these areas have taught me how to be adaptable and to create a safe space where kids can express themselves. Let’s embark on this exciting educational journey together!

I have been teaching for 36 years, working with children in kindergarten through 4th grade. My expertise lies in teaching subjects such as reading, math, science and social studies. I have a deep passion for education and love helping young learners reach their full potential. I am currently based in Virginia. My educational background includes a degree in Elementary Education and Educational Technology Leadership. I also hold certifications specifically designed for teaching children in grades PK-4 and 4-8. These qualifications have equipped me with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively teach and guide young learners. I have experience teaching children with a variety of needs and love working with all children. While I do not hold a Special Education certificate I have support students wth special needs in my classes and was an Instructional Coach for the Students Services Department of my school division. I have also worked with ESL students and their teachers to find ways to help them acquire the English Language. However, I do not speak other languages so it would be helpful if your child could understand some English to make a successful experience. For the last 20 years, I have served as an Instructional Technology Resource Teacher, which involves helping teachers look at their curriculum and develop ways to make it more engaging with technology. Through this work, I have learned of many tools to use with children to help make learning academic concepts easier. I cannot wait to start this learning journey with your family!

I have taught math for eight years, from 5th grade (most fun!) to high school. Now I teach 6th grade, and what I most like to talk about is the Math Dance! My students love it and do well.

My hobbies influence my teaching style, and I'd love to explain how! Outside of teaching, I'm incredibly passionate about solo traveling and skydiving. I have visited over 22 countries and I am a licensed skydiver with more than 60 solo jumps. My love for these hobbies has taught me to stay calm under pressure, trust the process, and remain adaptable in unpredictable situations. These skills directly influence my teaching style. In my classroom, learning is an adventure and failure is seen as a stepping stone to growth. I encourage my students to embrace challenges, take calculated risks, and develop resilience. My ultimate goal is to create an environment where they feel safe to explore, iterate, and learn, just like in skydiving!

My name is Lisa Papa and I have taught 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grade reading, writing, and mathematics for 25 years, 20 of those years at a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. I have extensive experience in and resources for these areas. I have tutored kids in reading, writing, and mathematics grades PK-9 throughout my years as a teacher and I have conducted reteach and enrich groups for reading and mathematics as well. I have read thousands of children’s books so if your child is a reluctant reader I can recommend books they may like based on their interests or other books they have liked in the past. In addition to my years of experience, I have taken hundreds of hours of professional development classes in reading, writing, and mathematics including classes with Barry Lane, Sue Yokum, Fred Jones, and other reading, writing, and math masters and leaders. My goal is for every student to love learning and to feel success and happiness at school. I know at the top of the profile in the Quick Look section it says I have 22 years experience, but then when you read the paragraph about my teaching experience it says 25 years. I have been working with Class Dojo tutoring since it started in 2022 and the Quick Look info hasn't been updated since then, but I do update my profile paragraph regularly so it has the most up-to-date information for you. I thought it was important you know why the numbers seem like they don't match.

Over the past 17 years, I have had the pleasure of teaching a diverse range of learners in grades 1st through high school, covering all content areas. Originally from Louisiana, I have also taught in Mississippi and Alabama, gaining experience in different education systems and cultures. I hold a Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies degree and a MEd in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in STEM. In addition, I have obtained teaching certificates in both Mississippi and Alabama for grades K-6. My qualifications, combined with my years of teaching experience, equip me with the necessary skills to effectively support your child's learning journey. When it comes to online learning, I believe it is important to make it fun and engaging for students. That's why I love to use bright visuals and incorporate dance parties, trivia, and games into my lessons. I also use strategies such as quick checks and intentional scaffolding to ensure that the learning is effective. Outside of teaching, I enjoy fishing, reading books, and spending time with my family. These interests greatly influence my teaching style and methodology, as I love to incorporate my passions into lessons to make them more relatable and memorable for kids.

Hey ya'll, my name is Dr. Shelby Miller. I have been an educator for 17 years. I have taught science, math, English, reading, and social studies. I am from Southern Mississippi (the Gulf Coast). Some of my hobbies are going on cruises to tropical destinations, reading books before I see them in the theater, and gardening (even though I do not have a green thumb). I have been teaching for 14 years, primarily working with learners in Kindergarten through 6th grade, this gives me an understanding on how each grade level's learning fits within the larger picture of a student's long range learning. I have taught all subjects, but for the last 8 years, I have focused on math with secondary subjects of reading or science. I have experience teaching in IL, KY, IN, and CO, which has allowed me to work with diverse groups of learners, understand multiple state standards, and understand different learning styles.
