Hello, my name is Asia McIlwain. I am a freshman in college, currently studying psychology with the goal of becoming a school psychologist in the near future. My passion for working with children is deeply rooted and has guided my academic and professional interests. I have gained valuable experience working with children as a babysitter, nanny, and youth teacher. Additionally, I completed a teaching course in high school, which further developed my teaching skills. I am also deaf in my left ear and have participated in academic support and resource classes, including special education (SPED) programs, for many years. These experiences have given me a strong understanding of the diverse needs of children and familiarity with 504 plans, IEPs, and various learning disabilities. I am committed to supporting children with different learning styles and helping them overcome academic challenges. Although my formal teaching experience is limited, my dedication to teaching and helping students succeed is unwavering. As your child’s tutor, my primary goal is to provide individualized support, whether your child is struggling to keep up or simply needs help breaking down complex assignments. I recognize the impact of technology on learning today and strive to make academic tasks more manageable by breaking them into smaller, understandable steps. My passion for working with children motivates me to help each student reach their full potential.

I’ve been teaching for 11 amazing years, primarily focusing on high school social studies, inspired by my degree in International Affairs 🌍. However, I've had the pleasure of teaching learners of all ages—from elementary students to adults—and from all over the world 🌟. I absolutely love learning, teaching, and—most of all—my students! Hi! My name is Kim, and I am excited to start this learning journey with you! I was a classroom teacher for 23 years, covering various grades and subjects such as 5th, 6th, and 7th grade English Language Arts along with some Math. In recent years, I have transitioned from the classroom and have become passionate about tutoring students of all ages. From kindergarteners to high school seniors, I have had the privilege of tutoring multiple students in math, reading, and writing. I have taught in Missouri and hold a BS in Elementary Education (grades 1-8) as well as an MA in Education. With my extensive experience and qualifications, I am confident in my ability to help your child succeed. I can truly say I absolutely love my job of walking alongside young people in their academic journeys. My greatest desire is to encourage my students to believe in themselves, to have a love for learning, to learn and apply content independently, and to have some fun along the way! In addition, communicating content well by making lessons engaging, fun, effective, and useful to everyday life is what fires me up! To engage my learners, I use fun icebreakers to establish a connection and tailor my lessons to their interests. I also incorporate virtual activities/ games, virtual whiteboards, and a variety of resources to keep their attention and make learning enjoyable. In addition, I have found that virtual rewards are a great way to motivate my students. Outside of teaching, I love spending time with my husband, my 10 -year- old daughter, and our yellow lab, Boaz! Whether it's going on walks, working in the yard, having coffee with friends, or watching our favorite sports team, The Kansas City Chiefs, I find joy in the simple things in life. My personal interests have also influenced my teaching style as I am a relational person and make it a priority to connect well with my learners. I believe that creating a positive and fun learning environment is key to helping students reach their full potential.

-My motivation is educating scholars and watching them grow. When students are able to apply something that I have taught and show success as well as growth, then my job has been done. I have many years of experience working with scholars on many different learning levels, and any amount of growth is GROWTH to me.

I have been teaching for 11 years, with experience in all grades K-12, specifically in Math, Science, Social Studies, Language Arts, and Reading. My teaching career has been primarily in Texas, where I have developed a deep understanding of the curriculum and expectations for students in this region.

With 11 years of teaching experience, I’ve had the joy of working with kids from Kindergarten through 8th grade, especially focusing on building confidence in reading, writing, and math. Hi, my name is Shashoy, and I am excited to begin this learning journey with you and your child! I’ve been teaching K–12 English Language Arts for over 10 years, and I’ve had the privilege of working with students from diverse backgrounds and learning styles. Presently, I am teaching in NC, where I build meaningful relationships with my students and create a positive, engaging classroom environment. I hold a Master’s Degree in Special Education, which has strengthened my ability to support learners of all abilities—especially those who benefit from tailored instruction, structure, and encouragement. Outside of teaching, I enjoy reading, listening to music, and spending time with my family and friends. My love for reading helps me bring fresh ideas, perspectives, and rich content into my lessons.

I have been teaching for 14 years and have experience teaching a wide range of grades and subjects. From 7th to 12th grade Social Studies, to everything for Kindergarten through 5th grade learners, I have a passion for helping students reach their full potential. Hello! My name is Kayla, and I’m thrilled and excited to embark on this learning journey with you. Are you ready? With 25 years of experience as a certified reading and ESL teacher, I’m passionate about helping children worldwide excel in reading and learning English. I’ve had the privilege of working with children in England, Italy, Germany, the US, and the Dominican Republic. Additionally, I was an accredited Daycare Provider, caring for infants to preschoolers and gaining experience working with a diverse group of students from around the world.

With over 23 years of teaching experience, I have had the opportunity to teach 3rd to 6th graders as well as 9th graders in a variety of subjects such as Science (Biology, Earth Science), Reading and Writing. My passion lies in making learning fun and engaging for young learners, and I can't wait to bring that passion to Dojo Tutor and my learners. I have taught in North Carolina for most of my career and hold a B.Sc. in Biological Science, an A.Sc. in Agricultural Science, and a Diploma in Secondary Education. As a licensed educator in NCDPI, I am dedicated to providing quality education to my learners and ensuring their success. My teaching style is centered around hands-on learning, laboratory experiments, and incorporating Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) techniques.
