With over 25 years of experience teaching English Language Arts to students from PreK to 12th grade in Texas, I love helping kids find their voice and express themselves through writing and reading. My background in History & Literature gives me a unique perspective, and I’m here to inspire your child to grow and become a lifelong learner. Making online learning fun is my superpower! I sprinkle humor throughout our sessions, turning lessons into fun adventures. Each learner is unique, so I customize engaging materials just for them, ensuring we dive into topics that spark curiosity. I’m dedicated to each student's success and I'm always ready to adapt my approach if something isn’t clicking. I see myself as part of your child's team and I welcome parent input as we work together to boost your child's confidence! When I’m not in the virtual classroom, you can find me exploring history and culture on museum visits and day trips across Texas. I enjoy infusing my love of history and science into my lessons, adding interesting facts and stories that make reading and writing come alive. I look forward to embarking on this educational journey together and watching your learner shine!

Hi, my name is Marinne! I am excited to start this learning journey with you! I'd like to share a bit about myself. I grew up just outside of Chicago, Illinois. In 5th grade I began to volunteer with children through my church. I was a Vacation Bible School group leader for many summers, this was my first experience that began my love for teaching. In high school, I was able to assist in a preschool classroom for an hour each day. I moved to Kansas to pursue my Bachelors degree in Unified Early Childhood Education from The University of Kansas (Rock Chalk Jayhawk!). I also have a minor in Theatre, which has helped me bring creativity and energy into my lessons. I am currently pursuing my Master of Business Administration (Go Ichabods!) as a full time student while working full time as a Human Resources Professional and part time at Dojo Tutor. I have continued to volunteer as a Youth Group Leader for 2nd-5th graders and a Vacation Bible School leader. I have always loved working with children, so I am thrilled to have the opportunity to do so for a few hours each week. During my time as a teacher & tutor, I have become well-versed in online learning and understand the importance of keeping kids engaged and accountable for their progress. To make online learning fun for my students, I love to incorporate games into my lessons. This keeps kids engaged and learning in a different way. Additionally, I encourage my learners to set goals and celebrate their achievements, while also holding them accountable for their learning. Outside of tutoring, I enjoy spending my free time reading, watching TV, and spending time with my furry friends - my dog and cat (you might catch a glimpse of her in a lesson). I love discussing books with my students. It's a great way to connect with them and foster a love for reading. I can't wait to meet you!

Hello, my name is Asia McIlwain. I am a freshman in college, currently studying psychology with the goal of becoming a school psychologist in the near future. My passion for working with children is deeply rooted and has guided my academic and professional interests. I have gained valuable experience working with children as a babysitter, nanny, and youth teacher. Additionally, I completed a teaching course in high school, which further developed my teaching skills. I am also deaf in my left ear and have participated in academic support and resource classes, including special education (SPED) programs, for many years. These experiences have given me a strong understanding of the diverse needs of children and familiarity with 504 plans, IEPs, and various learning disabilities. I am committed to supporting children with different learning styles and helping them overcome academic challenges. Although my formal teaching experience is limited, my dedication to teaching and helping students succeed is unwavering. As your child’s tutor, my primary goal is to provide individualized support, whether your child is struggling to keep up or simply needs help breaking down complex assignments. I recognize the impact of technology on learning today and strive to make academic tasks more manageable by breaking them into smaller, understandable steps. My passion for working with children motivates me to help each student reach their full potential.
