I have 24 years of experience teaching learners from Kindergarten through 10th grade in North Carolina. My passion for teaching started when I obtained a BA in English Education and continued as I pursued a MA in Curriculum and Instruction. Along the way, I also received my AIG certification for K-6, as well as 6-9 English Language Arts and Curriculum Specialist. As an experienced educator, I understand the importance of making online learning both fun and effective for kids. That's why I always strive to create interactive lessons that keep learners engaged. Whether it's using games, interactive videos, or other online resources, I am dedicated to making each session enjoyable and educational. I also believe in using positive reinforcement and attitude to ensure my students feel motivated and encouraged to learn. Aside from teaching, I have a variety of personal interests and hobbies. I am always up for trying new things and love encouraging my learners to do the same. I especially enjoy reading and watching game shows, as well as spending time outside. In fact, I am currently learning how to play pickleball! My diverse interests definitely influence my teaching style and methodology. I always strive to create a positive and welcoming learning environment where my learners can feel free to explore and try new things, just like I do in my personal life. So let's get started on this journey together and see where it takes us!

With 18 years of experience both in the classroom and as a Paraprofessional, I have had the pleasure of working with learners in 4th and 5th grade for ELA and Social Studies. My passion for teaching has allowed me to share my expertise and knowledge with students, making learning fun and engaging for them. I have been fortunate to teach in the great state of Kansas, and I am excited to bring my skills and experience to Dojo Tutor. I hold a degree in Elementary Education K-6 which has equipped me with the tools and resources to effectively facilitate learning for young learners. I pride myself on my ability to make online learning enjoyable and effective for my students. I love to be interactive and creative, using fun topics and student-led activities to keep learners engaged. My goal is to foster a positive and supportive learning environment for my students, helping them reach their full potential. When I'm not teaching, you can find me indulging in my hobbies of gardening, horseback riding, camping, and crocheting. These interests have helped me develop a knack for problem solving and thinking outside the box, which I incorporate into my teaching style. My learners benefit from my creativity and ability to adapt to different situations and challenges. I can't wait to share my passion for learning and my hobbies with your family and embark on this educational journey together!

What if the only thing standing between your child and success is confidence? So many capable students struggle — not because they aren’t smart, but because they doubt themselves or don’t yet have strong foundational skills. I specialize in turning hesitation into independence by strengthening the core building blocks in reading, writing, and math. And if your child is already on grade level, I ensure they are thoughtfully challenged and pushed further. Growth isn’t only about catching up — it’s also about stretching strong learners so they stay engaged, motivated, and excited about learning. As a Licensed K–5 Elementary Teacher with 12 years of experience in Chicago Public Schools and a Master’s in Education, I’ve helped thousands of students close skill gaps, build strong foundations, and develop the confidence to tackle new challenges on their own. I’ve earned consistent Distinguished Educator ratings and have been honored as Teacher of the Year — but what matters most to me is watching students begin to believe in themselves. Since 2023, I’ve supported K–5 students on Dojo Tutor in developing the foundational skills that lead to measurable academic growth and increased self-confidence. Families often share that their children begin participating more in class, completing work more independently, and approaching school with a stronger, more positive mindset. What You Can Expect When You Work With Me: Highly Personalized Lessons Every session is thoughtfully tailored to your child’s needs, learning style, and interests. Whether they love sports, animals, art, or science, I incorporate what excites them into our lessons to make learning engaging and meaningful. Clear Progress Monitoring & Reports You’ll never wonder how your child is doing. I provide regular progress updates so you can clearly see growth in skills, confidence, and independence. Strong Foundational Skill Building I identify and address learning gaps early, breaking complex concepts into manageable steps so students truly understand — not just memorize — what they’re learning. Challenge for On-Grade-Level & Advanced Students If your child is meeting grade-level expectations, I extend their thinking with enrichment, higher-level questioning, and deeper problem-solving to keep them growing. A Built-In Cheerleader Your child will always have someone in their corner. I celebrate effort, growth, and persistence, helping students develop a resilient mindset and the confidence to say, “I can do this.” Most importantly, I don’t just help students get the right answers — I teach them how to think strategically, monitor their understanding, and trust their abilities. My goal is to help your child become an independent, confident learner who feels capable inside and outside the classroom. If you’re looking for a supportive, experienced teacher who will meet your child exactly where they are — and help them move forward with clarity, challenge, and confidence — I would love to partner with your family.

Expert 3rd grade reading support, built around your child

Third grade marks the shift from learning to read to reading to learn. Children face longer passages, more complex vocabulary, and higher expectations for comprehension. Students who aren't fluent readers often struggle across all subjects.

At Dojo Tutor, our 3rd grade reading tutors work 1-to-1 with your child to build fluency and comprehension skills. Whether it's decoding multisyllabic words, improving reading speed, or understanding main ideas and details, sessions target your child's specific needs.

With personalized support, your child can become a confident reader ready to learn from texts in every subject.
